2024 was a year of rebuilding and growth for the Stand By Me Foundation. Fueled by our commitment to creating opportunities in swimming worldwide, we celebrated significant milestones that laid the foundation for an even greater 2025.
Strengthening Our Leadership Team
Anthony Ervin, 3-time Olympian, joined as President, bringing visionary leadership to expand our mission.
Trevor Freeman, former Fordham University water polo captain with 25 years of finance experience, is guiding our growth in New York City and across aquatic sports.
Fleur Sohtz, a native New Yorker and open-water swimmer, now leads operations to enhance our impact.
A Summer to Remember
This summer, our ambassadors shone brightly on the global stage. Jack Alexy made his Olympic debut in Paris, earning gold and silver medals, including Team USA’s first gold of the Games. He carried this momentum to the World Championships in Budapest, claiming gold and bronze in the 100 and 50 freestyle events. Claire Weinstein, also a first-time Olympian, secured a silver medal in Paris before earning bronze in the 200 freestyle in Budapest, where she set both an American and World Junior Record. Tomer Frankel, a 2-time Olympian, proudly represented the Israeli National Team in Paris. Meanwhile, Zion James achieved a personal milestone by qualifying for the Olympic Trials for the first time.
Achievements in 2024.
Beyond the spotlight of the Olympics, our ambassadors continued to achieve remarkable milestones. Dare Rose, an NCAA All-American, added a World Championship medals to his accolades. Destin Lasco, an NCAA Champion, set a new American Record in the 200 Backstroke, showcasing his dominance in collegiate swimming.
Reopening the River East Pool
In October, we celebrated the reopening of the River East pool in partnership with Asphalt Green. This revitalized facility now serves as a hub for the East Harlem community. The weekend featured two swim clinics led by Olympians Anthony Ervin, Jack Alexy, and Dare Rose, alongside NCAA champion Lexi Cumo and local masters and collegiate swimmers.
Two Relay Teams, 28 Miles Around Manhattan
Two teams of six swimmers completed a 28-mile relay around Manhattan, raising $40,000 for our programs. This event exemplified the power of collaboration and a shared passion for swimming.
Expanding Opportunities Through Scholarships
At a special reception, Jack Alexy and Dare Rose presented a $25,000 check to a New York based non-profit, Asphalt Green. This funding will provide swim scholarships for children from East Harlem and the Bronx, granting access to elite training, mentorship, and clinics.
